A Year From the Hammock

How the Best Seat at Happy Camper Watched the Seasons Change
There are plenty of great views at Happy Camper.
The fire pit. The deck. The peaceful woods.
But if you ask us, the best view has always been straight up.
Last July, we had an idea. Every time we visited Happy Camper, we'd snap a photo from the exact same spot—the hammock. No fancy camera tricks. No filters. Just whatever Mother Nature decided to show us that day.
Twelve months later, we realized something.
The hammock has witnessed more drama than most reality TV shows.
July 2025: "Life is Good"

Summer arrived wearing its brightest outfit.
The trees stretched overhead like a giant green umbrella while the sun played peek-a-boo through the leaves. Birds were singing, squirrels were arguing over absolutely nothing, and every gentle breeze made the forest sound like it was whispering, "Slow down... you're on vacation now."
The hammock had officially found its purpose.
"I was made for this."
Fall 2025: The Annual Fashion Show

Then Northern Michigan did what Northern Michigan does best.
One morning, the trees collectively decided green was out and shades of orange, gold, and crimson were in.
No invitation.
No warning.
Just...
"We're fabulous now."
The hammock approved.
Guests spent longer looking up than looking at their phones—which, honestly, is exactly how vacations are supposed to work.
Early Winter: The Trees Call It Quits

Eventually the leaves packed their bags.
One by one.
Thousands of tiny resignation letters floating to the ground.
The forest suddenly looked taller.
The sky looked bigger.
The hammock started wondering if everyone had moved away.
Winter: The Great Tarp Vacation

Then came the ultimate plot twist.
The hammock itself disappeared.
Not forever...
Just into storage beneath a protective tarp.
If you've ever wondered what a hammock dreams about during winter, we're pretty sure it's imagining summer guests, afternoon naps, and someone spilling just a tiny bit of marshmallow on it around the campfire.
Instead...
It spent months staring at...
...well...
A tarp.
Talk about a downgrade.
Somewhere under there, the hammock was probably thinking,
"I used to have panoramic forest views. Now my roommate is polyethylene."
Spring: "Hey Everybody...I'm Back!"

The tarp came off.
The hammock stretched.
The birds returned like they owned the place.
Tiny green leaves appeared almost overnight.
The squirrels resumed their daily staff meetings.
The forest woke up.
And just like that, everything felt alive again.
July 2026: Full Circle
One year later...
The view is once again a ceiling of brilliant green leaves dancing against a bright blue Michigan sky.
The same trees.
The same peaceful woods.
The same hammock.
Just another chapter in the story.
It's amazing how much can change in twelve months—and how comforting it is that some things don't.
Why We Love This View

Most people visit Northern Michigan for the lakes, trails, ORV adventures, kayaking, fishing, and campfires.
Those are all wonderful.
But sometimes the best vacation memory isn't something you do.
Sometimes it's simply lying in a hammock for twenty minutes...
Listening to birds.
Watching sunlight filter through the leaves.
Feeling the breeze.
And remembering what it feels like to truly relax.
That's our favorite view at Happy Camper.
Not because it's spectacular every single day.
But because it reminds us that every season has its own kind of beauty—even if one of those seasons involves spending months wrapped up like a giant hammock burrito under a tarp.
We can't wait to see what Year Two brings.
Until then...
The hammock will be waiting.
